So today in my German cinema class we watched Fritz Lang’s metropolis. Oh. My. God. This movie invented the blockbuster and watching it made me realize that every other film I have ever seen has been trying to replicate the awe that Metropolis inspires. No matter how old fashioned the technology was it still amazes to this day. That Lang managed to choreograph a thousand (a thousand!) extras to movie as one…. The only problem was that the original score was lost so we watched it with this crazy 80’s synthesizer stuff as background music. But still, it is amazing and moving and has boys in eyeliner. What more could you ask for?
